I am Dr Todd Brandt. This one page website is an overview of who I am and what I do.
Below you can find a blog with information specific to medical conditions I treat. This page is intended for the patients I see and take care of within my practice. This page is not intended to give specific advice about your medical condition.
I get asked all of the time why I became a urologist. The long-winded answer goes something like this: I was looking for a specialty where I could become a surgeon and be able to fix things with my hands while also enjoying relationships with people in a clinic setting. My short answer? Urologists always seemed to be having fun and I felt I could fit in and contribute.
A urologist is a surgeon, but often much more to a patient. We develop relationships with patients over long episodes of care.. Cancer care, kidney stone treatment, voiding dysfunction, enlarged prostates, and men's health concerns are all problems that develop and change with time. I have many patients I have been seeing over 20-plus years of my career.
My mission is to provide high-quality, compassionate, up-to-date care. I am dedicated to utilizing technology to improve your urologic health while maintaining a patient-centered focus.
In the words of Albert Einstein, "Make things as simple as possible, but no simpler." My aim is to offer a down-to-earth, no-nonsense approach to your care. I offer this approach as the best way to tackle problems that may not have simple, straightforward answers.
In a speech called Aquanimitas given in 1889 to a graduating medical school class, famed physician William Osler describes the character traits of a "good doctor," a balance of head and heart, calm, confident, and competent in a crisis, and kind when it's calm. I hope to find this balance every day I put on my white coat.
Prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States. Prostate cancer usually grows very slowly but some cancers grow quickly. Finding and treating prostate cancer for men with faster growing cancer is critical to improve men's health or help them live longer.
Kidney cancer can develop in adults and children. The main types of kidney cancer are renal cell cancer and transitional cell cancer in adults. In the modern era of medicine with imaging such as ultrasound and CT scans many kidney cancers are found in early stages and cured. Most kidney cancer is sporadic but certain inherited conditions increase the risk of kidney cancer.
The most common type of bladder cancer is transitional cell carcinoma, also called urothelial carcinoma. Smoking is a major risk factor for bladder cancer. Bladder cancer is often diagnosed at an early stage and effectively treated with minimally invasive surgery. Blood in the urine is the most common presenting complaint for people with bladder cancer.
Kidney stone disease, also known as nephrolithiasis or urolithiasis, are the minerals in the urine combining together in a concentrated urine to create a stone. Small crystal and stones pass spontaneously. Larger stones require surgery. Kidney stones are a very common problem. Urgent treatment for some is needed. A tailored prevention strategy is needed for everyone.
Almost all men will have prostate enlargement. Some men will have obstruction of urine through the urethra because of it and require medication or surgery to treat it. My partners and I offer almost all forms of current treatment options.
Erectile Dysfunction is a very common problem in men. Penile Implants are used for men when medication, vacuum devices, and injection treatments are no longer effective. You can find more information about my experience placing penile implants using the link below.
Men have unique health problems. Enlarged prostates, erectile dysfunction, testicle and scrotal complaints such as hydroceles, circumcision, Vasectomy, Peyronies disease.
Much of what we see in the office are patients with general complaints about their urinary health. Pain, infection, and bleeding are common complaints. My job is to sort through these complaints to determine a cause and a solution if possible.
Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels can be a sign of prostate cancer. It can also indicate noncancerous problems such as prostate enlargement and inflammation. My job is to help you determine what is causing the elevation.
The da Vinci robot by Intuitive Surgical has been a fixture in my practice since 2008. Most all cancer surgery to remove prostates, kidneys, and bladders are done robotically. We also treat very large prostates and other benign disease such as a Uretero-pelvic junction obstruction with the robotic technique
No-scalpel vasectomy is a type of vasectomy procedure in which a specifically designed ringed clamp and dissecting hemostat is used to puncture the scrotum to access the vas deferens. This is different from a conventional or incisional vasectomy where the scrotal opening is made with a scalpel

Kidney stones are treated in one of four ways. Urologists try to treat kidney stones as minimally invasive as possible using very sophisticated techniques.
1. Spontaneous Passage–medication, rest and hydration
2. Holmium Lithotripsy–usually during a ureteroscopy to break the stone under direct visualization
3. Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripsy–p[assing shock waves through the body to break up the stone
4. Percutaneous Nephrolithotomy–a small puncture directly through the skin into the kidney allows visualization to break up and remove even the largest of kidney stones.
